Will Prednisone and/or Amoxicillin cause urinary incontinence in dogs?
My dog was recently started on a combination of Prednisone and Amoxicillin by the vet.
vet think she was bitten by fire ants and she has mutliple sores on her head. She's been scratching so when I took her to the vet last night, that's what she got started on.
did fine last night, went outside late in the evening and when I woke up this morning, I saw she had peed in the floor! This is VERY unusual for her! I work 12 hours shifts and if I can't get anyone to take her out she will occassionally have to stay by herself she has never once peed in the house when I've worked 12 hours! She hasn't peed in the floor since she was a small puppy!! I don't know what's wrong with her.Help!
This is a very common thing to happen when taking Prednisone. My little Pom was on that medication for a long time for heart problems. It causes them to get very very thirsty, and it also drastically increases appetitie. My dog did the same thing, she was totally house trained, but she just couldn't help it.
she is weaned off the Prednisone this problem will go away.
and talk to your vet if you are concerned, he/she will explain and put your mind at ease. **If you have to be gone for a time, put her in an enclosed area, maybe with a tile floor easy to clean up, or with newspapers down on floor.
just can't help it with the meds. (A baby gate is a life-saver!)
